I spent a lovely weekend in Holland with some of my family during November, visiting Den Haag and Amsterdam, staying in a Hotel in the centre of The Hague; relaxing, walking and eating, a much needed break!
Back to business, and our National Show Committee got together for an end of year catch-up mid month. However, due to an untimely car problem, I ended up not being able to attend our JSC Autumn Meeting which took place at the end of month.
I provided a round up of Society news via email, alongside an update on a couple of actions to our JSC Secretary. Allan (JSC Chair) kindly provided me with an update on our revised Society Show Rules; where the majority of our committees focus is right now - you'll hear more on these as we move into next year.
Our Society membership fee hasn’t changed in many years, and at April’s Society AGM there was unanimous agreement to increase our membership fee to £20 from 2025 (an increase of £3).
We can no longer simply absorb the varied cost increases (inflation) we’ve seen over the last few years, and our committees felt this increase still offered value for money; given our membership discount on National Koi Show vat booking(s), show entrance concessions, and our reduced rate for online KOI International courses.
We’ll be sending a wider membership email over the coming weeks, but if you would like to get in touch specifically on this point, please contact membership@bkks.co.uk
In relation to our Sections, there was also agreement to increase our show vat judging fees from £6 to £9 for 2025.
The Society will continue to subsidise this cost, albeit at a slightly lower rate (taking into account the increase). If any of our Sections would like to discuss this further, please let our Section Liaison Officer know.
Onto other news; November sees the ZNA’s 60th Anniversary Koi Show (Lake Biwa) take place. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish the ZNA a successful show, on an impressive anniversary.
Edit; congratulations to Mr Ryuhei Tanaka, awarded Grand Champion (GC) with an imposing 90cm+ Kohaku from Sakai Fish Farm.
Kentaro Sakai’s World Nishikigoi Club Show (1st) also takes place during November.
Edit; the Grand Champion here, was awarded to a great example of an 80cm+ Kohaku from Dainichi Koi Farm.
That's it from me for this month, I'll be providing a brief December Blog ahead of Christmas, so whatever you are up to, stay safe and enjoy the hobby.
Rob.
