Chairman's Blog - August 2023

Time flies when your having fun…

As you might expect, given the Koi Show Season is in full swing, August has been busy.

The Crouch Valley Show kicked August off, and having both exhibited and benched this show, I’d recommend a visit if you’re in or around Essex.

Exhibiting or getting involved with a show provides a good perspective, especially if like me, you’re interested in seeing fish develop.

It might have been the temperature in the venue on that day some 12 months ago, but this Sakai Fish Farm (SFF) Silver Fox Ogon oozed quality; Jumbo Champion duly awarded at 84cm.

Fast forward to a slightly cooler 2023, and the fish was back, touching 90cm.

Again she didn't disappoint, taking Jumbo Champion for the 2nd consecutive year.

This fish just keeps getting better and better, and irrespective of some recent commentary, rearing any fish to 90cm from Nisai and as this hobbyist has, is something to be applauded.

2023's Crouch Grand Champion was an SFF Sanke, owned by a long time hobbyist Andy Baker.

Andy’s had a tough 12 months, coming back from a serious operation and a period of recovery, to take GC really is a cracking achievement.

The North East Section Show has also taken place, unfortunately living in the South East this is a significant 'day trip' for me.

I understand from Craig's comments on social media, that there was a high standard of fish exhibited across a busy weekend - you can find the Major Awards alongside other news in Liam’s Blog

The Great British Koi Show closes August out, taking place across the Bank Holiday Weekend in Newark.

Do check out Liam's Blog for news, and given timings, I'll include an update in next months Blog (you can find event details in our Events Section).

Looking ahead to September; the 35th Mid Staffs Koi Section Show takes place across the 16th/17th, and I’ll be benching and possibly also exhibiting at the All England Koi Show in Detling (22nd/23rd) - please visit and support these events if you can.

Whatever you are up too, enjoy the hobby, and I look forward to perhaps seeing you at the last UK Koi Show for 2023.
