Given a super busy June preparing for The National Koi Show, this month's Blog will only take up a few minutes of your time.
I wanted to extend The Society's congratulations to Luke Warren, who's Grand Champion Kohaku at 82cm was indeed a worthy winner. Luke has owned and raised this fish since Nisai (2 year old); she hails from Dainichi Koi Farm and is the offspring of Kinsen.
Luke and this Kohaku also won the All England Grand Champion back in 2023 - you can now add a National Koi Show Grand Champion to her growing list of awards.
Over the last few years, The Show Committee have introduced two new awards for size 6 fish; a size somewhat 'overlooked' from an awards perspective - The Society Chairman's Sakura Award & The Show Chairman's Miyabi Award.
This year The Society Chairman's Sakura Award went to an outstanding Benigoi exhibited by Tom Alderton (congratulations once again Tom).
Similar to Luke, Tom has also owned and raised this fish for a number of years, and she hails from Sakai Fish Farm (Hiroshima).
The mesmerising shade of colour alongside the overall shape and conformity, which figuratively speaking made the fish 'jump' out at you from the show vat - a variety not often seen especially when as good as this.
Thanks to all the volunteers that helped stage The National Show, we couldn't do it without you - we also hope everyone that attended over the weekend enjoyed themselves.
Finally, a big thank you to Liam Bess; why not head over to World of Nishikigoi to check out Liam's 45th National Koi Show Blog
Until next month; whatever you are up to, enjoy the hobby.
Rob.
